The Role of the Performer by Trenton Woods

Elvis Presley

Elvis Presley, also referred to as "The King", is known for his magical performances containing energy and sass that made the crowd go crazy every single performances. But before we talk about that let me tell you his back story. Elvis Aron Presley was born in January of 1935 in Mississippi. Elvis came from a low income family that was God loving and humble. Presley was always fascinated with music and got his first guitar at the age of 11. not long after that he signed his first deal with a record label then quickly started to perform song after song. Elvis never actually wrote any of his songs but his performances speak for themselves in how well he got a crowd roaring.

Elvis' first single came out in 1954 called "That's All Right" followed by his first #1 hit in 1955 called "Heartbreak Hotel". Elvis began to take over the world but not just in the music industry. Elvis was also an actor in a film called "Love Me Tender"(1956). He also was in the military services after being drafted in 1957 which then led to his military career ending in 1960. He then married his wife in 1967 and had one daughter. Elvis and his wife, Priscilla, had gotten divorced in 1973.

Like many other big name celebrities, Elvis fell into a drug addiction to prescription drugs that had caught up to his rock star lifestyle. Although battling this these unfortunate problems, Elvis was still a popping rock star on tour.

Elvis had died due to heart failure on August 16th of 1977 relating to prescription drugs. These problems were ongoing but his legacy will live on as one of the greatest performers the world had ever seen.

Musical Performances:

Although Elvis never wrote his songs he performed them to a level that people could only dream about doing one day. Elvis had the voice and the dance moves to go along with it. His energy and swagger had people hooked to his music. This song "Hound Dog" displays his incredible voice as well as his loose dance moves that had people addicted.

The first video is in Elvis' younger days and this second video is when he is a lot older. He is a natural born performer and you can tell by the way his energy is still incredible at an older age. This dong is called "Unchained Melody"

Elvis Presley had a load of different composers that helped him excel his music career that fit his energy and spice he brought to the table. The is a reason he is called "The King".  He was great at what he did, and that was to perform to the best of his ability. His role was played like nobody else had ever done. I really wish I could have been alive when he was to just see the rave and experience his spunk. Although I never got to see it, his legacy will live on for people like me to enjoy.

  1. When I was deciding on who to do my blog post on Elvis was a top prospect. Like you said in your post he is a natural born performer. Which is why all you see in catalogs for impersonators he is the most popular in that community. He has such a classic unique look that you can tell who he is with out even knowing his name. Crazy how he did the rock n roll lifestyle with out even being in the golden age of the rock n roll lifestyle haha. Or he could have just went back home like they say in Men in Black 2.

  2. Hey Trenton, I would definitely agree that a proper name for Elvis Presley was "The King" especially during his time. During the 50's when Elvis was in his musical prime, he was an icon for so many fans and even other performers! There are a lot of interesting facts that I learned from your post like the fact that he started his career before he was even 15. I also really enjoy the videos that you attached because those are the ones that come to mind when I think of Presley too, haha. Great job at summing up the legacy that is Elvis!

  3. trenton,
i have always held Elvis in high regards to his music and his performances. Taking to my grand parents that grew up listening to his music have said that he was an amazing performer with his stage presence and his flashy suits. They always said that he brought energy to the stage so it was cool to get a backstory to where that came from.
